Genealogy
I started making art from old family photos about 25 years ago. My dad had gotten into genealogy sometime earlier and, through his research, had come across photographs of relatives I had never heard of or barely remembered. Other photographs framed people I did know in a new light. I would draw or paint from the same reference, often years apart, finding new significance (or imagining it) in an expression or pose I hadn’t noticed before. The selected works in this portfolio are the latest interpretations of these photographs.
